Premium Margaret River Shiraz, produced by Western Australia’s renowned Sandalford Wines, formed the foundation of a distinctly elegant and memorable gift packaged in a unique marriage of highly embossed papers, cord and crafted timber. <image:caption>The Swan Valley is home to Western Australia's oldest vines, some of which are located within Mandoon Estate, which nestles on the fertile banks of the Swan River. Discovered more than 180 years ago by Captain James Stirling, the locality (referred to as Mandoon by the local Aboriginies) and its history were seen as pivotal to the brand development for the winery. REB Design developed the brand identity and a set of refined, contemporary labels for the reserve tier, which pay homage to the first meeting of the explorers and the indigenous people. REB Design was engaged to design a package, which would reflect its premium price point and offer. Opulence underscored every aspect of the concept – from the delicate script fired direct to the bottle in bright gold; through the richly coloured, highly romantic Elizabethan styled illustration about its neck; to the uniquely designed stopper 'crown' in bright gold finish. <image:title>Packaging - Alcoholic - Thornhill Wines</image:title>
<image:caption>The design brief to REB Design for the Thornhill brand was to create a label that would symbolise triumph – it needed to acknowledge the original owners who acquired the property in the early 1920's with the proceeds of inheritance from the family's Thornhill estate in England. What was developed also pays testimony to the current owners of The Berry Farm and the magnificent fruit produce they grow under the ever-watchful eyes of the abundant Blue Wren, which grace the Margaret River estate. Sandalford Wines ‘Prendiville Reserve,’ celebrates the development of limited releases of ultra premium wines. <image:title>Packaging - Alcoholic - Spicers Paper - Touch & Taste</image:title>
<image:caption>‘Touch’ and ‘Taste’. These two words became the basis of a packaging concept for a corporate gift developed for Spicers Paper, a company synonymous with fine papers across Australia. The client’s brief was as simple as it was succinct – to source a premium wine and wherever possible, to utilise equally premium papers available through the company to create a distinctly elegant and memorable gift. Soft and synthetic paper stocks, sealing wax, wood, aluminium and black rubber ‘O’ rings were tastefully married to produce a package inclusive of a label which speaks of the long kinship between wine and paper, and a proprietary gift box, skilfully built out of only one piece of card. Without a doubt, an offering worth remembering. Client: Spicers Paper, Scoresby VIC</image:caption>

<image:title>Packaging - Alcoholic - Sandalford Estate Reserve</image:title>
<image:caption>Following in the footsteps of the highly successful brand development of Sandalford’s ultra premium Prendiville Reserve, was the re-branding of the company’s premium Margaret River wine ranges. Now branded the ‘Sandalford Estate Reserve’ and the 'Sandalford Margaret River' ranges , the labels draw upon a combination of classic-contemporary cues, which include the use of elegant typography, subtle paper embellishments and a generosity of space. Highly applauded by the trade and consumers alike, the re-branding marked a significant milestone in Sandalford’s marketing strategy in its domestic and international markets, and underscores a visual culture that is unquestionably, ‘Sandalford’. <image:title>Packaging - Alcoholic - Colonial Brewing Co.</image:title>
<image:caption>REB Design's development of the parent brand and associated sub-brands for Colonial Brewing Co. was driven by a requirement to create a memorable family of brands that would work well together or when standing alone. Designed for both on-tap premise identification and for sale in a unique range of collectable bottles which were silkscreen printed, the sub-brands and their supporting stories (be they somewhat irreverent and at times not entirely historically correct), became the platform for a brand culture which was extended to the pub-brewery interior, website and promotional material. <image:caption>Some 12 years after creating the original port series for The Berry Farm, REB Design was afforded the opportunity to re-visit the range once again. Very few wineries produce a range of ports, let alone a range of extremely unique fruit ports. As there was also discussion that the range would grow, REB Design proposed the development of a ‘Port House Series’, with each style proudly displaying its own unique number in high build silk-screen on a soft paper stock. <image:title>Packaging - Alcoholic - Element Wine Range</image:title>
<image:caption>‘Element of Sandalford’ marked the revitalisation of a highly recognisable brand for Sandalford Wines, one of Western Australia’s more applauded wine producers. The brand had lost some of the contemporary ‘edge’ it originally possessed almost a decade before, and in the eyes of the board of management, was in need of invigoration. REB Design was appointed to revitalise the series of labels, but to maintain the distinctive iconic symbols, representative of the earth’s elements, which were associated with the brand. Reinterpreted on fields of vibrant colour, the label range generated greater consumer appeal, particularly amongst a younger, more discerning, wine savvy demographic. <image:caption>3drops is a family owned business, which has developed an enviable reputation over the years as an award-winning producer of premium wines and extra virgin olive oil. From the outset, REB Design recognised the need to develop a memorable brand name and culture, which would afford the boutique range of products strong shelf presence in the highly competitive wine and gourmet food sector. The wine notes on the bottles set the brand apart. Instead of the traditional winemaker’s notes cramped on the rear of the bottle, REB Design developed Haiku style poetry which takes pride of place on the front labels to reinforce the brand culture as well as to describe the contents within The results have secured a strong following with an urbane demographic across Australia, as well as in the UK, Hong Kong and Canada. <image:caption>Michael Goundrey is synonymous with Western Australian wine making. The release of a range of wines under the banner of Jamie & Charli – a young wine making duo benefiting from the Goundrey tutelage – brings to the marketplace a brand which is distinctly casual, with a modicum of attitude that is bound to appeal to the 20-50 year old, wine savvy demographic. The Baldivis Estate Cabernet Reserve is an example of a single, premium product utilising innovation in packaging to appeal to its target demographic. The clever use of a label in place of a capsule allowed REB Design to propose a virtually clean bottle, save for a metallic gold crest printed beneath its shoulder. The paper 'capsule' was simply secured by way of a proprietary riveted bronze disk. The attitude is innovative - the style extremely classic. Sourced from the protected forests of south-western Australia, where the Jarrah trees only flower biennially, it is a highly limited and prized medicinal supplement, which is considered by many to be the ultimate, health sweetener. REB Design was engaged to develop a packaging range that would appeal to a sophisticated, health conscious, Japanese demographic, which appreciates elegant packaging with a classic-contemporary skew. Integral to the label design was the brandmark development, a calligraphic interpretation of a bee, which immediately alludes to the contents without devaluing the premium price-point of the products. <image:caption>Some six years after developing the original packaging for 3drops Extra Virgin Olive Oil, REB Design was asked to review the package, with a view to it becoming more contemporary, easier to produce, simpler to fill on-line and less prone to damage on the retail shelf. One of the mandatories was the retention of the original bottle with its fired graphics, but to refine the graphics so that they would complement the new packaging style. The result is an innovative die-cut ‘label’, which double wraps the bottle and affords potential new purchasers a hint of the bottle-fired graphics, which lie hidden beneath. The packaging matches the bakery’s promise of elegance and indulgence. As the product contained dark chocolate, REB Design recommended that it be called ‘Pan Choccolatti’, under the premium Dom Salvado brand. The program of works included the development of the proprietary double-lined box made from textured card, and the development of the Dom Salvado brandmark, carefully nestled between gold foiled wood-cut styled seals and supported by Spanish and Latin writings which provide links to the origins of the brand. <image:caption>REB Design relished the idea of developing packaging for the Pickle Factori range of antipasto products and building a brand that focused squarely on the business owners Italian heritage. Every aspect of the program reinforced the classic-Italian style one would expect from a premium product from Italy itself. <image:title>Logos + Brandmarks + Identities - Three Ocean Maritime</image:title>
<image:caption>Three Ocean Maritime is Australia's leading provider of hold cleaning, hold separation and cargo services to all ports around Australia. In 2010, the company directors elected to commission a re-branding program to fit with their vision of future growth. REB Design provided a raft of brand identity services including the development of the new identity, print collateral, website design and vehicle livery. <image:caption>Make-up and its application, particularly in small, poorly lit spaces, can be the bane of many a woman, hence a range of highly desirable make-up cases and application accessories by Case Couture was developed to remedy the problem. The brief to REB Design was to develop a brand identity, which would have classic influences and at the same time work effectively when embossed or debossed into the various materials used for the shells of the units, as well as on accessories and in marketing applications. The result is a marque that draws its influences from the flourishes of Rococo and typography reminiscent of that found in France in the early twentieth century. <image:caption>The mark of a better drop - ‘Australia West – Dominion of Wine’, was an innovative marketing strategy developed for the Wine Industry Association of Western Australia, to generate greater global awareness of West Australian wines and to leverage off the region’s unique attributes. The purple brand mark, reminiscent of a wine drop, was crafted to mimic the shape of the greater Australian land mass - the ‘Dominion of Wine’ unabashedly pinpointed with an ‘X’. Taking ownership of the colour purple was seen as fundamental to the brands success. The application of the purple hue and the identity to a surreal advertising campaign afforded the brand enormous potential, particularly with its ability to leverage off the state’s world-renowned pristine environment. <image:caption>(A)lure restaurant at Burswood was designed to appeal to a younger, sophisticated demographic. It required the development of marketing material with a focus on quality and attention to detail that would capture the imagination, while maintaining a youthful vibrancy. REB Design developed a campaign which highlighted the restaurant’s urbane, vivacious culture, with attention paid to talent selection, attire and photographic styling, to create a brand offering which fitted with the client’s brief, “eat, play and drink in style”. The strong, clean image of a slightly androgynous individual savouring some precious drops of wine, was developed to appeal to a very savvy and sophisticated, wine appreciative demographic and to compliment earlier brand development works created for the client. <image:title>Print + Marketing - Curtin University – EPC Capital Campaign</image:title>
<image:caption>In an economy driven by minerals and energy, few skills are more important to industry than those of its engineers. Recognised as a primary source of the State’s engineering graduates, Curtin University commenced the evolution of its engineering program with the development of a $32.5 million Engineering Pavilion Complex (EPC), which provided resources for problem-based learning and the facilitation of greater interaction between students, faculty, research and industry. To support the large capital raising campaign, REB Design was commissioned to design a document which would have retention value, showcase the sustainable energy efficient features of the complex and highlight the facilities deemed necessary to produce engineers of a calibre increasingly demanded by state, national and global industries.
